PAQUITA LA DEL BARRIO, GRITO PARTY 2008 & DALLAS FOR BUSINESS

Well México City has been a great adventure, going to lots of art shows, exploring the city, finding lots of places to eat and have good strong coffees.

Meeting the new friends has been most wonderful. Better than what I could have hoped for. Friends that are artist, writers, creative types and just everyday people pushing along to get ahead in this mega city that is chaotic and wonderful at the same time. I thought I was going to be lonely but meeting everyone has helped me in making the biggest transition of my life

One of things I always wanted to do in México City was to participate in The Grito: To be in the Zocalo when the President of México and the thousands of people yell Viva México, but it rained. The rain was not hard but it was constant and I worried about getting my camera wet. As I entered the Zocalo it was so fantastic that one of my favorite Mexican singers, Paquita la del Barrio, was in da house, on stage and singing. I have dozens of here CD’s but had never seen her before so it a really cool.

Well after the Zocalo I went to a party given by Michael Parker an American that is now living in México City. Michael’s apartment turned out to be a few blocks from the Zocalo on Calle República de Cuba in the Centro Historico District. His apartment is located in this old great building and his apartment has a street view from his two balconies. He had it decorated all nice and of course lots of Mexican Independence Day décor. It was very nicely done party that was lit mostly by candles. At 11 PM we all went to the roof top to see the wonderful fireworks at the Zocalo. The amazing thing about seeing all the fireworks from the roof was that none of Michael’s guest fell to the street below. Not that anyone is clumsy, but the booze was flowing and everyone was having a terrific moment in time.

It was a great crowd, a great party and Michael being a majestic glamour’s host. One of the fun things about Michael is that he is known as “Nosey Parker” where every month he has a GET THE DIRT! column in Inside México’s “Guide” section: www.insidemex.com

Seeing Paquita la del Barrio and being at THE Grito party by Michael was a wonderful way to close out this México City visit. I leave for Dallas on Friday afternoon, September 19, 2008, to pick up my car, books and conduct some business for a month – then it’s México City to stay.
