I AM BACK IN MEXICO CITY; FIRST STOP – TO SEE MELY

I am now back in Mexico City having driving the 1,272 miles from Dallas. It was a most exciting drive, for the very first time, to be behind the wheel of a car.

I got pulled over by the Policía Federal leaving Matehuala,San Luis Potosí and being that I have heard some horrible stories about these guys, I got a little nervous. As I rolled down my window, the police officer came up to me, extendend his hand to shake my hand and he said Buenas Dias. This put me at ease and I was glad he was wearing gloves so he wouldn’t notice my sweaty palm.

I had to open all the windows for them to see inside my car, open my trunk and my hood. Then they got into the car and it appeared to be that they were dismantling my car dash. I tried to look closer but the head chief told me to back away. He gave me a suggestion: he said never to approach a police officer while they have their backs turned to you and working. They could pull out a gun and shot! I got the hint – just like Texas police. They said they just wanted to make sure the car was not stolen or that I was carring weapons. AND they also said that they were there to protect me.

Yes, it seems lots of weapons used in the drug war in Mexico come from the USA, so my stop was understandable. Within 10 minutes I was back on the road.

More blog info on my trip to follow, but first I have to answer lots of e-mails, unpack, buy groceries, etc.

My first stop though was to see Mely my lovely lady friend. We had breakfast this morning and then a stroll at the park, Alameda Santa Maria la Ribera. It feels good to be back in the big city.
