CASA DE LA MUSICA MEXICANA – XIX ANNIVERSARY FESTIVAL
On Tuesday, March 10, 2009, my friend Mary Williams, a lovely British writer friend of mine, happened to walk into Casa de la Musica Mexicana, S.C. – Escuela de la Musica Mexicana, which was founded March 1990. We were wondering and noted their plaque outside their building.
Met Mtro. Jose Luis Cerón Mireles, Subdirector Academico, who took the time from his busy schedule to give our unannounced visit a history of the academy and a personal tour.
Mr. Cerón spoke with such warmth and obvious love for what he does, music. There were a couple of times when he not only spoke of a particular song but he pulled out a guitar that was sitting next to his desk and he would sing the song. It was a lovely day spending the morning with Mr. Cerón but also we were introduced to Mtro. Jorge Luis Aquino Gómez, the Director General who also was a nice man.
In leaving, the two gentlemen invited us to the academy’s annual festival that was to be held on Friday, March 13, 2009.
So I went to the concert and these are the pictures and videos that resulted of my attendance to their XIX Anniversary Festival: In memory of Daniel García Blanco Director Fundador (1929 – 2008) of Casa de la Musica Mexicana, S.C.
I heard like three ½ hours of the best Mexican música popular and it was all free. The students ranged from teenagers to retired adults. It was GREAT.
