Was visting Dallas and am now back in Mexico City
I have not blogged lately because I went to Dallas for a visit – it was great. I am now back in México City and hope to be posting on a regular basis.
I landed in Dallas on the evening of Thursday, September 17, 2009. My sister, Angelina, picked me up at the airport. And my first stop immediately after arrival was to Matt’s Rancho Martinez for some tasty Tex-Mex food: LOVED IT.
I mostly stayed with friends in La Casa Blanca, the White House: LOL. My friends hosting friends Mario and Alex live in an apartment in Oak Lawn that is called Casa Blanca which resembles a Mexican border town – think Reynosa.
My first morning in Dallas I went to the local store and the cashier gave me my total in Spanish. I gave the cashier more money than the amount and she counted my change back in Spanish. I thought – Welcome to America: speak Spanish. Whereas in México there is no English.
After my trip to the store I sat on my friends’ steps and I saw a monarch butterfly sitting on a wildflower. Which I thought was wonderful because the monarch was going south to México for its migration and here I had traveled north for my fall migration.
here is the pic of the monarch I saw my first day in Dallas
Dallas was great, lots of fun: Went to the State Fair of Texas, ate lots of Tex-Mex food, helped as an MC at 2009 the Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade, I spoke at LULAC Council 4871 – The Dallas Rainbow Council’s meeting. I also spoke and had a reception sponsored by Dallas’ leading Mexican folk art store, Casa Mexicana. I attended small intimate parties and soirées in my honor and I went to many happy hours trying to squeeze in the many friends I know. And I stayed longer than expected because I had to make a fundraiser – Spanke’s Toilet Paper Party, a fund raiser for AIDS Services of Dallas.
But before I left for the airport to head back to México City I had to have one last taste of Tex-Mex food. So there I was back in Lakewood at Matt’s Rancho Martinez one last time.
I love Dallas, I was born and raised there, but it feels good to be back in México City in my own bed and not living from a suitcase.
My friend Silvia Thornton let me use her 1988 Camaro – Shadow to use while I was in Dallas.
Here is a picture of me about to run over a young lady on a cell phone while her little sister looks on.
