I survived Day of the Dead in México City
Trying to catch up with my blogging so here goes.
I did make it to a Day of the Dead event near Mexico City proper, in Mixquic. At first I thought I was not going to make a real event because I was not sure how to get to Mixquic. But then I get an e-mail from a FaceBook friend Alvaro Espinosa Hermida someone I really didn’t know but someone I had met one time before because he liked my apartment, home, and he had visited me once before with his girl friend. So off I went to Mixquic with Alvaro and four of his friends, all strangers to me: people in their late teens and early 20’s.
Funny how Alvaro and his friends did not know how to get to Mixquic, they just knew the general direction. We stopped several times to ask directions because no one had a map. All this was encouraging to me because I could see that Mexicans don’t use maps, they just go and ask directions along the way. So I will be doing the same, driving more in Mexico without a map and just asking directions.
These are the people I went with to Mixquic:
Alaro is the one on the left showing his big eyes to the lens.
Well, we hit heavy traffic as we were leaving México City, so what did we do? Got beer! We drank along the way being careful not to be seen by the police as we listened to cool Rock en Español, Janis Joplin and a touch of Tom Jones - HOW COOL IS THAT? VERY. Kids got to be real cool to listen to listen to this type of music and I knew it was going to be one big party – and it was!
We made it to Mixquic, drank more beer. We made it to the town cemetery connected to the church: we hung out and took pictures: Then drank pulque. Then more beer and then we got a bottle of rum. It was one big party and not what I had expected.
Then next day(s), I had the biggest hangover I have every had, una bien chingona (bass ass). It lasted for three days!! Never will I drink that much again and will now hang out with people my age: LOL – I forget I am retired.

The teens below – I just thought they had cool hair.

Love it and the photo with the hair muy groovy! I wanna do pulque! eh , I think….
It was fun and the hair is real cool. Pulque is great, just be careful!!!
