Is that a chicken foot in my soup or did ET lose a body part?
Well the other day I got real sick from too much drinking and then not eating well. After getting sick, I had not eaten in three days when the the cleaning lady was to come over and clean my house. Being that I don’t think I could stand the smell of cleaning materials I called my cleaning lady to cancel her visit. When I called to cancel, she asked, Por Que – Why? I explained, she said OK. Well she shows up to my house anyway but having gone to the market first to buy chicken and vegetables to make a soup and herbs to make me a tea. She said you have to eat and that she was going to make a soup and a herbal tea. GREAT.
She made the best soup I have every had. I had two big bowls and drank the tea. I was feeling better within a couple of hours. I had enough soup left over for two days which was fine with me because, well, it was good. Then it was gone.
I told a neighbor friend of mine that I wanted more soup and she told me where I could get some “good chicken soup” at a neighborhood cafe and that it was “cheap.” So I went to the place my friend suggested, a place that is real small, only two tables. I sat down, I ordered my chicken soup. Well I was surprised when my chicken soup arrived because sitting in the middle of the soup was a chicken foot, or maybe ET had lost a body part! No kidding, see picture below.
I wondered, did they just toss the whole chicken into the pot? The soup was good, but I did not touch the foot. When I told a Mexican friend of mine about the chicken foot he says, “You gringos crack me up sometimes,” because he never thought it “weird” to have a chicken foot in chicken soup, because HELLO, it is chicken soup.
Funny in that all the time that I lived in Dallas, I was Latino, Mexican-American or Hispanic and now that I have moved back to the land that was my grandparents, Mexico, I am GRINGO! LOL

It’s a ghastly sight in any soup, is a chicken foot! The mother in law loves them. Chews them to the bone. I can’t watch.
I do have a group of chums who absolutely love a juicy chicken foot though…..

LOL Gary: Love the video – the turtles love chicken feet!
That’s very common here in Perú. Sometimes you find chicken’s head also. I don’t eat them, but my grandma used to say it was delicious!
The last paragraph was a hoot!
So you move to Mexico and find out you are a Gringo after all. LOL…

Where, if your family didn’t come over with the pilgrims, you’re something of an outsider.
Jesus,
Next time just hold where the “knee” would normally be on the foot, pop the other end in your mouth, bite down, and pull out. You will be treated to some very strange textures. I’ve tried them multiple times in Puebla and Tlaxcala. Kinda, rubbery. :)
Thanks for the great posts!

When I was a child in Monterrey, Mexico, that’s was the part of the chicken that I have to eat to grow up “strong” said my grandmother.
Joel: Thank you for your comment. Soooo, was your grandmother correct? Did you grow up “strong”?
